Richmond

Entry: My Buddies and I are avid walkers. We try to get out as often as possible. We might not walk very fast, or travel very far, but this doesn't diminish our enthusiasm or enjoyment in the least. In addition to the benefits of healthy exercise, we have the best conversations and make many great discoveries along the way every time we walk. We are fortunate to have great places to walk right outside our front door, so getting there is easy. People tend to notice us when we walk by, too. Maybe it's because we like to hold hands and people aren't used to seeing that. Or maybe it's because of our short stature, I'm only 5'1" and my buddies are all considerably shorter. I guess it could also be our slow pace, which is plenty fast enough for us and our short legs. It's not a race! Personally, I like to think it's our good looks that gets everyone's attention.

Entry: The Chief Trail is a steep and difficult climb, requiring hikers to be in good physical condition. The View on reaching level one is spectacular. My daughter and her friends had the opportunity of going on this trip. After viewing her pictures and hearing about their adventure, has encouraged me to to put this trail on my "to do" list.

Entry: Last weekend, I had the opportunity of witnessing joggers and cylists on the seawall at Stanley park. What i loved about the seawall, besides the scenic route, was the fact that it is divided into two sections, one for walkers and joggers (closest to the water) and another for cyclists and inline skaters (inside path).

Walking with nature, has been my road 2 recovery.

Entry: From Steveston Village to Finn Slough around 12K to and fro, a brisk walk or a stroll through beauty and nature and a touch of a kind and loving God. Whether you walk with a friend, or a dog or all alone, I have enjoyed this walk for almost a decade now and yet each time feels like an entirely new experience.

Entry: MCDonald Beach on Sea Island is one of the best off leash dog walking areas in the Vancouver Lower Mainland. Miles and miles of beach front land and trails that you and your dog can roam and get fit...sand walking is not for the weak! Enjoy!

Entry: Minoru park is a hidden jewel in the heart of Richmond. Since it is located near the Richmond Hospital, it does give some of the patients a chance to relax outdoors on the benches or take a quick walk , in between appointments.

Entry: We are so blessed to live in Richmond due to its numerous walking trails. I have dubbed the South Arm park walking trail as my Road to Recovery as walking on this trail was nourishing to my body and mind during my cancer treatment.

Entry: Nothing but pristine weather today! Not too hot and not too cold with a slight breeze! Just a nice day for a walk for my family and I! Its so quiet here. That is..before the market starts that is!! Haha. And just even if you aren't the walking type, just stand there and looking at the river and just take deep breaths. It just makes the person so much more relaxed and at ease! Sometimes, its just these little things that make life so much happier! :)

Entry: Hi again, I'm back from my walk, so here is what I did: I left Lansdowne Mall, went down Cooney and Nr 3 Road up to Steveston Hway, turned right on Steveston Hway and left on Nr 2 Road, went down Nr 2 up to Moncton, turned right on Moncton and reached Steveston Waves Coffee Shop after almost 1 and half hour. I got a coffee (in France we say: after the effort, comfort!!!) and went back using the dyke from Garry Point up to Terra Nova, the Oval and back to Lansdowne! It was an amazing walk, probably close to 20k! These next few days I have to work a lot but you can count on me to squeeze a few miles walking / running somewhere on the Richmond pavement. It's just a decision I make every day to move my body which makes my mind very sharp and alert and gives me tons of energy!

Entry: During the month of August, I usually freeze my gym membership at the Oval in order to enjoy the pleasure and beauty of walking under the Richmond sun! Everybody knows that our community receives more sun than some other towns due to its geographic location!
So here I am, almost every day, walking 8 to 10 kilometers around Richmond! It can be over 25 laps at the Minoru track or the dyke from Terra Nova to Steveston and return or even the jetty at Iona Beach!
Richmond is an awesome place to walk; it's mostly flat and very safe! Originally from France, I moved to Richmond 13 years ago and what attracted me most (outside the diversity of good food we can get!) is the opportunity of enjoying the outdoor and the endless possibilities of nice walks.
I need to get ready now because, today, I decided to walk from Lansdowne Mall to Steveston and return, which is approximately 20 kilometers!

Entry: Walking under the skytrain rail along no. 3 road is a great pleasure. I don't have to worry about the sunshine or rain and I can easily find a chair to seat down when I am tired. Thank you for the 2010 Olympic Winter Games !

Entry: My two daughters always enjoy a walk from Brighouse Library to Minoru park because it is like a exploring trip everytime. We did our walk on last Tues. August 9th when the swimming class was done. My 3 year old daughter was collecting pine cones and some wild flowers or leaves along the way. My 6 year old daughter would scream excitingly as she noticed squirrels or bunnies near by. We all enjoy the flowers, big tree that gives shades and cooler air in the heat of summer. Minoru park is a beautiful oasis in the middle of dowtown core of Richmond. The most fun part for our trip is the stop at the duck pond right in the middle of the park! On our way back, my girls get to spend some fun time at the playground at the edge of the Minoru park.

Entry: While I always enjoy the unique dyke systems in Richmond for a great walk, let's expand and explore the beautiful nature among the greater Vancouver area.
Yesterday (Aug 13) I hiked the trail NorVan falls in the North Shore. It is about 35 to 40 mins drive from Richmond to Lynn Headquarters, the trail head. We started from Cedar Mill trail, an easy trail, in the 1st hr and entered a wilder part of the trail for another 1.5 hrs in an easy pace to get to the falls. We stopped by to see the artifacts of the mills and walked over the wooden track built to transport when the forest was logged. How interesteing the trail looks different as we return in the same route.

Entry: During the Vancouver Canucks incredible run for the Stanley Cup I walked for 3 hours every time they played. Just before each game stared I laced up the old walking shoes and off I went. I usually ended up striding purposely along the dyke which is an absolutely refreshing place to be especially in early evening with the sun just beginning to dip below the horizon and cooling breeze gently caressing one's face. I did this because I just couldn't bear to watch the Canucks play. I felt as though their run for the cup was a metaphor for my life. Now what does it mean for me that they lost when they really should have won on so many levels?! I would like to say that all that walking has made me fit and trim, but alas, I cannot. The trauma of the loss drove me to all may comfort foods which as always seems to be the case are of the fatty variety. But, I am still walking....It's no impact, I can do it whenever I want to, and most importantly, it's FREE!

Entry: Steveston has wonderful places to walk, one of my favourites is along the dyke starting off in Steveston village and walking along the waterfront. You will see planes landing, birds, boats, historic sites and gorgeous waterfront!
